Move It, Move It

You don’t necessarily need to join a health club to get in good shape. In fact, walking behind a lawn mower works just as well.
Move More Thomasville is a monthly exercise incentive program sponsored by Thomasville Medical Center, Thomasville City Schools and the Thomasville Parks and Recreation Department.
The program is open to anyone, regardless of physical activity level, and the program is self-monitored so that participants can exercise at their own pace and convenience.
To participate in Move More Thomasville, all you need to do is begin exercising. You can fill out a registration form – available at area sponsors – to join the program. You can also sign up online at the city of Thomasville’s Web site.
The long list of activities that participants can engage in includes aerobics, basketball, canoeing, chopping wood, cycling, dancing, hiking, lifting weights, martial arts, mowing grass (push-mowing), playground activities, running, skating, swimming, soccer, tennis and yard work.
One cash incentive prize of $100 is presented each month to the person who achieves the most physical activity as part of the Move More Thomasville program.
Organizers say any moderate to heavy physical activity that increases the heart rate can count toward the total hours of exercise. Many experts believe that as little as 30 minutes a day of moderate physical activity can reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.
Thomasville Parks and Recreation and the Davidson County Health Department are collaborating on designing self-guided walking paths to promote physical activity throughout the town.
